Answered: Should athletes be paid so much?

They should be playing for the love of the sport, not the love of money! They only work part of the year too. They have all that time off in the offseason! Give that money to our underpaid teachers I say. They're shaping the youth of America. People need to think about helping the environment and charity for those less fortunate. I say NO to this one!

Answered: Should Bryce Harper have been benched for not hustling?

All of these guys should play like Rose did. If they didn't nobody would come to games anymore. Just let the manager give Harper a talk. He'll be back in the lineup tomorrow, maybe go 4 for 4 (but St. Louis will still kick their ass!). Rose should be in the Hall.

Answered: Should Pete Rose be in the Hall of Fame?

He agreed to be permanently banned from the hall of fame. I don't think he should be penalized unless he intentionally threw games to make money. But we can't prove he didn't throw games intentionally to win bets.

Answered: Should girls be able to play football?

Absolutely. For one thing it would make the pat on the behind for a good play look more natural if a guy pats a girl on the behind rather than when one guy pats another guy on the behind. As long as the pat doesn't turn into a rub or a squeeze it will be fine. Of course, if it does become a rub or squeeze and the girl slaps the guy, we could have the strange sight of a personal foul being called on a player for doing something to his own teammate. I think these kinds of problems could be worked out though.

Answered: Should the extra point in football be eliminated?

No keep it because the 7th point on a touchdown should not be automatic even though statistically speaking it is virtually automatic. The NFL is considering a change to make all TDs 7 points with a regular play afterwards giving the opportunity for an 8th. Gee whiz how dumb is that? Plus, if they don't get into the endzone, they lose one point. Like what coach isn't going to just stick with the 7 points rather than risk losing the 7th? Another change they're thinking of is moving the spot from the 2 yard line to the 25th yard line. So every extra point is a 42 yard field goal. The NFL (read Roger Goodell) is idiotic. Can't they come up with any better alternatives? They go from one extreme to the other on this: just give them the 7th point automatically or make it very hard to get it. I say leave it the way it is. Either that or bring back the dropkick for all extra points. Now THAT would be interesting.

Answered: Should football players run track?

Yes, but only certain players should run track. It would be comical to watch offensive linemen doing the 5 meter dash. Or cross-country running using a calendar as the clock. Then again running backs should run the hurdles. And certain quarterbacks should run sprints. At least until they get an offensive lineman who can letter in the 5 meter dash.

Answered: Should the kickoff in football be eliminated?

No. Really, how wimpy does football have to become anyway? Pretty soon "NFL" will stand for the "National Flagfootball League." The NFL has already banned the Wedge of blockers for the return team to cut down on injuries on kickoff returns. Should the NFL ban passing plays over the middle where defenseless receivers get creamed by safeties? Or punt returns? The kickoff is too integral a part of the game to eliminate it unless there is incontrovertible proof that the kickoff is the most dangerous play in the game and connot be made safe. We might as well rename some teams the New England Pattycakes or the Minnesota Maryanns.

Answered: Should Major League Baseball ban home plate collisions?

Home plate collisions are actually infrequent so there really doesn't have to be a rule preventing them. A catcher has the choice now to avoid that collision by not blocking the plate. A runner has the choice not to collide with the catcher by sliding through the catcher's feet or around them. Banning collisions gives the catcher too much of an advantage to tag a runner out, because it would be the runner who has the obligation to avoid the collision. What does the runner do if the catcher is blocking the plate? What if the collision is caused by the catcher? Who can tell who caused the collision? What constitutes a "collision? Is it the Pete Rose-Ray Fosse type or is it any type of runner-catcher contact?

Answered: Should Alex Rodriguez have been suspended 2 seasons?

His suspension was way too long. The other players like Braun and Cruz didn't fight their suspensions because they were reasonable. They're making ARod a target unfairly. He said it perfectly when he said it was a witch hunt. They are using means of discrediting him that are not allowed in baseball's operating agreements. It's all an attempt to make Selig look like a saint and build his legacy. Fight the power ARod!! We're with you.

Answered: Should basketball players have to go to college?

I think they develop quicker as players in the NBA. They're playing with the best in the world and there aren't any limits on their practice time in the gym. They're also going to make more money going pro since they can get to that big 2nd contract (1st one is capped based on where they're drafted) sooner.

Answered: Should Roger Maris be in the Hall of Fame?

Roger Maris breaking Babe Ruth's record was one of the defining moments in baseball history. With so many juiced records these days from steroids and PEDs the guy who first broke the home run record should be immortalized in Cooperstown. With all the media scrutiny and pressure on Maris he rose to the challenge and did what not even The Mick could do. That scene when he rounded the bases and stood there waving to the crowd (because his teammates wouldn't let him in the dugout) will be a permanent fixture in baseball history and he should be honored for that. How can there be such an amazing exhibit for 61 in the Hall of Fame but Maris himself not be in there?

Answered: Should kids lift weights?

Parents and doctors often say it's unsafe for children to train with weights until after puberty. The thinking is injuries can stint their growth. Why are we letting our pre-teens get beat up playing football or hockey but we don't let them in the gym until they're 14? If they're playing sports then they can lift weights. This report dispelled the myth back in 2001. It basically said adolescents (and even pre-adolescents) could safely strength train to maximize their performance and rehabilitate their injuries.
